There are caricatures and there are caricatures

There are a lot of "caricaturists" that just make a drawing of a face/head and put a small body underneath and call it a caricature.

A real caricature drawing is exaggerating something that is characteristic for a person. It can be just a face or the complete person.

How to draw a caricature

There are many ways drawing a caricature. First of all there are many personal styles. Some artists makes small adjustments from the original oicture to make a caricature, others make bold and big changes to the original. After a while you'll find your personal style.

1. To begin with you should look overall from top top bottom. Can you see any part 1, of the face that points out. Big bushy eyebrows, high/low forehead, big/small nose, thin/thick lips, big mouth, big ears? Don't forget to have alook at the outline like the shape of the head, ears and chin.

2. After you've got an image of what parts to make smaller/bigger it is time to practice. Make a lot of different caricatures and take a break for a few minutes. Go back and pick two of the best caricatures. Analyze why they are better than the others. Repeat point 1 and 2. Now your caricature should be quite a lot better then the first one you made.

Good luck.
